Creative Math Lab – Week 2
Troll Bridges: Geometry & the Strength of Shapes
❓Can you build a bridge strong enough for a troll?
This week, our Creative Math Lab becomes a medieval engineering workshop! Young builders will explore how geometry, shape, and structure help engineers turn simple materials into strong bridges.
🔍 We will investigate familiar shapes—triangles, squares, rectangles, arches, and cylinders—but instead of simply identifying them on paper, we'll build with them, push on them, bend them, compare them, and test their strength.
Students will discover why a square can wobble while a triangle holds its shape, how engineers use repeating triangles in trusses, and why arches have supported bridges and buildings for hundreds of years.
