Today is Dec 30th and here in the heart of the blessed South it is 70 degrees! Our Winter honeybees are busy - just walking by our Ice Pink Camilla you can hear them buzz.
Winter Bees are genetically the same as Summer bees but live for months versus days. True! The difference is the food they eat and fat bodies they store their winter energy fat source, sort of like a bear hibernating for the Winter stores fat.
This time of year every honeybee you see flying is female and she is busy seeking a nectar source so any flower blooming this time of year is tremendously valuable. In fact it could mean the difference between life and death for the honeybee.
